Built by someone
who got tired of
watching it DONE THE SAME WAY.
Patchwork CPA was founded in 2026 by a CPA with eleven years inside a local firm, three of them running operations, and a long list of small mistakes he watched the industry make over and over. He left to do it differently.
The Story
Meet Matt.
A short version of how Patchwork came to be. The long version takes about an hour, and Matt is happy to share it over coffee.

Matt is a Certified Public Accountant based in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He spent over a decade at a 45-person local firm, working across every service line before leading operations. Those years taught him what great client service looks like when it is done right, and how much the industry has drifted from that standard.
Patchwork exists to bring it back. That means answering the phone. Returning emails. Showing up for the conversation you did not know you needed, not just the one you scheduled in April. Clients deserve an advisor who is genuinely in their corner, year-round, and they deserve to know what that costs before the invoice arrives. Patchwork is built around three commitments: year-round advisory, transparent subscription pricing, and independent ownership by CPAs, written into the operating agreement so it cannot change hands without changing character.
The same standard applies inside the firm. Patchwork runs on a high-expectation, high-support model. Staff are developed deliberately, held to a high bar, and given the tools and apprenticeship to clear it. That investment shows up directly in the client relationship, in the quality of the work, the depth of the thinking, and the consistency of the experience.
Outside the office he plays golf, sources antiques for the firm's eventual physical space, and reads more than he probably should. His wife Sarah keeps him honest. His kids keep him laughing.
"I started this firm because the work is worth doing well. And because the people doing it are worth being treated well."

How We Work
The five C's.
Five words we keep coming back to when we make decisions about who we hire, what we promise, and how we behave when no one is watching.
№ 01
Courage.
Say the hard thing in plain language. Tell clients what they need to hear, not what is easy.
№ 02
Craftsmanship.
The work is craft. Accounting is not a commodity. We sweat the details that other firms skip.
№ 03
Care.
People come first. We treat our clients, our staff, and our community like they matter, because they do.
№ 04
Context.
Numbers without context are noise. We learn your business and your life before we offer advice.
№ 05
Curiosity.
We are still students of the work. We read. We test. We ask. Then we apply it on your behalf.

We'd love to listen.
Every conversation starts the same way. You tell us what you are dealing with. We tell you whether we are the right fit. No pitch deck, no pressure.
